Western Heritage TourThe Wichita Western Heritage Tour is unique in that it includes not only the traditional element of the "wild west," but also the art, animals and plants of the time. This ten-site tour gives an entertaining, as well as educational look at the development of the old west. The tour is highly affordable (four of the ten sites are free) and can be tailored to each group's level of interest and time available. All sites are located in the city of Wichita. Included on the tour are:
Site #1 Old Cowtown Museum: Historic 17 acre open air museum with 35 exhibit areas depicting life between 1865 and 1880.

Site #2 Indian Center Museum: Located in the Mid-America All Indian Center, this museum preserves and showcases the heritage of the many native tribes of North America.

Site #3 Charles M. Russell "Heritage of the West" Gallery: A total of 26 original paintings, water colors, drawings and bronzes by the frontier's most famous artist are included in the outstanding M.C. Naftzger collection.

Site #4 A Prairie Garden: Seasonal displays includes the buffalo grass and big and little bluestem, the grasses that nourished the great herds of bison.

Site #5 North American Prairie Exhibit: Stroll along an unique skywalk for an eagles-eye view of some of the prairie's most famous animals.

Site #6 Chisholm Trail Exhibit: Wichita native Jesse Chisholm blazed the famous trail that made possible the great Longhorn cattle drives from Texas to the rail heads in Kansas. A local lawman Wyatt Earp began to earn his reputation corralling the rowdy cowboys in Wichita.

Site #7 Buffalo Bill Monument & Gravesite: Learn the story of William Mathewson the "Original Buffalo Bill and last of the Old Scouts."

Site #8 Chisholm Trail Historical Marker: This weathered limestone monument marks the spot on the Chisholm Trail where the "walking river" of Texas Longhorn cattle met the Arkansas River, the final natural barrier of their epic journey.

Site #9 Sheplers, The World's Largest Western Store: No tour is complete without a great shopping component. The Wichita Western Heritage Tour concludes with a visit to the world's largest western store and catalog center.
